One of the goals of the fourth meeting of The World Workshop on Oral Medicine (WWOM IV) included a review of the pathophysiology and future directions for the clinical management of patients with oral epithelial dysplasia, excluding the lips and oropharynx. For obvious reasons, this question cannot be fully answered, but most of the studies have been conducted by investigators with acknowledged expertise in oral medicine and oral pathology. One of the prospective studies has specifically stated that if biopsies showed epithelial dysplastic features, the patients were excluded from the follow-up study ( Holmstrup et al ., 1988 ).
OBJECTIVES: To assess the current scope and status of Oral Medicine-specific software (OMSS) utilized to support clinical care, research, and education in Oral Medicine and to propose a strategy for broader implementation of OMSS within the global Oral Medicine community.
